Bulgaria's toll system for heavy goods vehicles
Two charging regimes run side by side on Bulgarian roads: light vehicles buy a time-based vignette, while heavy vehicles pay a toll based on the distance they actually cover. The dividing line follows the vehicle's maximum permissible mass, and the exact threshold and the categories covered are published by the national toll administration. What the charge depends on

Where responsibility sits
The operator of the vehicle is responsible for correct payment, and a driver saying the company dealt with it does not help during a check. A missing payment, or a unit that stops sending data, leads to administrative consequences and usually to an on-the-spot correction procedure. This is why the balance, the route and the vehicle data in the system are checked before departure.
