Child benefits in Bulgaria: amounts and income limits

Child benefits in Bulgaria rest on the Family Benefits for Children Act (Закон за семейни помощи за деца, ЗСПД) and are granted by the Social Assistance Directorate (дирекция „Социално подпомагане“) at the family's current address. Most benefits have no income test; only three do.

Who grants them and how to apply

According to the Social Assistance Agency page, benefits are requested from the Social Assistance Directorate at the family's current address with a standard application-declaration form and the documents required for your family status. Amounts are set by the state budget law and are financed entirely from the state budget. The page also says payments are made in cash only until the end of 2026.

Income limits valid from 1 August 2026

Per the page, under the 2026 state budget law (State Gazette 69 of 31.07.2026), from 1 August 2026 the average monthly income for the 12 months before the application month must not exceed:

Regardless of income, benefits are given for children with permanent disabilities, children with or without an inherited pension from a deceased parent, children placed with relatives, close persons or foster families, and children raised by a single adopter.
