From filing to registration

  1. Fee and formal examination

Once the filing and examination fee is paid, the Office carries out a formal examination and checks absolute grounds for refusal.
  2. Publication

A compliant application is published in the Office's Official Bulletin.
  3. Opposition window

Within three months of publication anyone may oppose the registration.
  4. Decision and register

If there is no opposition or it is rejected, a registration decision is issued and the mark is entered in the State Register; the certificate is issued within 14 days once its fee is paid.

Term of protection

Registration lasts ten years from the filing date and can be renewed an unlimited number of times for further ten-year periods. Recording a change of name or address also carries a separate fee; check the page for the current amount.

This page is not legal advice

Amounts and periods were read from the Patent Office's official page on 8 October 2026; tariffs can change. The page describes the applicant as a Bulgarian natural or legal person; for a foreign applicant or an EU trade mark, ask the Patent Office or a registered industrial property representative. The Office's home page carries a notice about fake emails demanding fee payments, so confirm any payment request only through the Office's official channels.
